MATERIALS

The materials used in our products influence our environmental impact. During product development, we consider requirements relating to quality, workmanship and the longest possible product lifespan. We therefore select materials and processing methods according to the specific requirements of each product. In selected product segments, we use cotton from certified organic farming. We also review when packaging is necessary and how it can be optimized.

MATERIALS USED IN STRAUSS APPAREL IN 2025

The data refer to outerwear, trousers and underwear. Where an item consists of multiple fabrics, only the main outer fabric has been considered.

We distinguish between technical and natural materials. Technical materials are generally synthetic materials characterized by durability, functionality and versatility. They account for approximately 60% of the materials used in STRAUSS apparel, with polyester representing the largest share.

Natural materials originate from renewable plant or animal sources and account for around 40% of the materials used in STRAUSS apparel. Cotton is by far the most important raw material within this category.

ORGANIC COTTON

In selected product segments, we specifically use organic cotton. More than 82% of the cotton used in our underwear range comes from certified organic farming. Organic cotton is also used in selected women’s and men’s T-shirts.

The fabrics used are certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) or the Organic Content Standard (OCS). These standards support the traceability and verification of certified organically produced fibres throughout the textile supply chain.

PACKAGING

Packaging protects our products from damage, dirt and moisture during their journey from production to the customer. For selected product packaging, we use paper and cardboard instead of plastic.

For some STRAUSS textiles, we use plastic bags only where they are required under our packaging criteria to protect products from moisture and dirt during transport. We ship less sensitive items, such as trousers, without plastic film and use only a paper band instead.

Cardboard boxes are the most frequently used form of packaging in our goods dispatch operations. In recent years, we have significantly reduced the amount of packaging material used. Shipments containing only a few or small items are sent in small cardboard boxes or paper mailing bags.
